David Hills

I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.

 Biographical Information

For many years, I have been attending New Life Assembly.  I have found it to be a wonderful spiritual home. God has provided many deep and caring brothers and sisters there.  As an Elder at the church, I have been challenged to find deeper and deeper reliance on Christ.  I have enjoyed teaching Adult Sunday School, Teen Sunday School and giving the occasional sermon.  Several years ago I coordinated an urban youth ministry (Mission 3:16) that ministered to kids in my Westside neighborhood, Riverside and Buffalo's Eastside.  I had to step down to pursue educational administration, but look forward to working with teen, inner-city ministry in the future.   My wife continues to work with some of the girls in a ministry to young moms in the city called Teen MOPS.

I have lived on the Westside Buffalo for 13 years.  At that time I also taught at Christian Central Academy in Williamsville.  I enjoyed teaching there.  However, I felt I should resign to follow where God had called my heart.  I started teaching in the Buffalo Public Schools in 1996.  In 1999, I transferred to School #3.  It is right around the corner from my house, so I walked every day.   I began studies in School Administration and Leadership in 2003 and in 2004 I began to work for the Buffalo Public Schools as an Administrator.  I was the Supervisor of Staff Development for the Buffalo Public Schools for two years.  During that time we began many initiatives in the Buffalo Schools to improve literacy instruction and school climate.  Despite many accomplishments and seeing some fantastic transformations of instruction through professional development, I felt called to pursue school administration in at the building level.  I received an appointment as Principal of Lovejoy Discovery School #43 in August of 2006.  It is a Pre-Kindergarten to Eighth Grade school with 480 students.  It is a diverse school with a fantastic student population and a strong staff.  I am enjoying my experience there tremendously.

In August of 1999, I married a longtime friend and precious gift from God, Diana Borchert (now Hills).  After a honeymoon in the Adirondacks, Diana and I returned to Buffalo, NY to begin building a marriage.  Our first child, Anna, was born in September of 2000.  Anna has been a joy and delight as we see how God has blessed our family.  Anna is currently attending Bennet Park Montessori School #32 and is in the 3rd grade.  Diana is working with management and planning with Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled.  We are slowly refurbishing our 1890 home and continuing to seek God's call on our lives.
